Head
off hospice care budget cuts BY BETSY SHEA-TAYLOR Sunday, July 26, 2009 1:26 AM EDT When time is limited, hospice is there to help. Now time is an issue for hospice itself.
The organization
has 67 days before care for patients with Medicare faces cuts enacted by the prior administration. Congress issued a moratorium
this year, but its expiration date is Sept. 30.
In addition, hospice faces cuts of $2.3 billion over five years
and $9.8 billion over 10 in early estimates of the House of Representatives health reform proposal, just released by the Congressional
Budget Office.

On August
16, 2009 the Runaways Running Club is presenting our 7th Annual Runaways Runaround 5 Miler, which will be run
on a scenic course through North Attleboro, Massachusetts.
We are very excited to be organizing this road race because, once again, the proceeds of the race will benefit
Community VNA Hospice Care (CVNA) in greater Attleboro, Massachusetts. As
you probably know, Hospice provides care and comfort to patients and families in the final months, weeks, and days before
death. As you may not know, Hospice of CVNA relies extensively on charitable donations to achieve their mission.
Funds raised through the Race are used for uncompensated hospice care (for those patients with
no insurance and for those whose insurance does not cover all the services needed). The majority of our hospice patients are
covered by insurance that pays a per-day flat rate, regardless of the level of care a particular patient requires. Some patients
need extra care or special pain meds or other symptom control therapies that are beyond the flat daily rate but we have to
be able to supply that level of care, regardless of expenses. Donations to Community VNA Hospice Care are used to help meet those extraordinary needs and allow us to accept all patients regardless of insurance or reimbursement. - Since 2004, we have donated $15,000 to Hospice from our race proceeds--hopefully, this
year, with your help, we can top that amount!
There are many costs involved in putting on a road race--these include event permit fees, race timing systems, awards, participants
t-shirts, water, etc. We hope you will assist us in this
endeavor to support Hospice--by doing so, we will be helping Hospice carry out their mission of compassionate care of the
terminally ill members of our community. We are seeking sponsors to
help defray these costs.
While any amount would be much appreciated, here are our sponsor options:
